"The pelvis is misaligned for whatever reason — either secondary to tight muscles or weak muscles. As a result, there tends to be compression in areas where there shouldn't be compression."
Pelvic obliquity is an all-encompassing condition where the pelvis is misaligned — tilting forward, backward, or laterally. This can predispose patients to back pain, hip pain, and SI joint dysfunction. The misalignment is typically caused by muscle imbalances — tight muscles in the front or back of the body that shift the way you walk and compensate through your gait.
Dr. Knopp evaluates the musculoskeletal chain — identifying which muscles are tight, which are weak, and how the body is compensating. Treatment starts conservatively with OMT, addressing the structural misalignment directly with hands-on manipulation.
For patients who need additional intervention, Dr. Knopp utilizes newer technologies like Sprint — a peripheral nerve stimulation system. "It's medication-free. We use very thin wires to change the way nerves transmit pain from the pelvic area to your brain."
Starting with evaluation and conservative treatment, results typically develop over 3 to 6 months. The goal: "Not just treat the pain, but improve your function — being able to do things that patients were able to do before."

Pelvic misalignment is often the root cause of back, hip, and SI joint pain — and it responds to hands-on treatment before resorting to procedures.
